10 Celebs Who Killed Their Careers After Dissing Beyonce

With 21 Grammys under her belt, Beyonce is easily placed as one of the most important names in music. But have you ever wondered why the singer is rarely caught up in feuds or has other musicians throw cheap shots at her? It’s pretty simple. Her fellow artists have seen what has happened to others who have dared to go against Beyonce and her fans — daring yourself to diss Bey results in a career of nonexistence. From musicians to reality stars, every single one of them who has taken some sort of dig at the 34-year-old has landed themselves in the hot spot of struggling to get their career back on track. With a strong following on social media, and consistently topping the charts as R&B’s best-selling female artist, Beyonce has proven why she is untouchable. And if one decides to step out of line and makes a silly remark about her, the Bey-Hive will make sure it’s taken care of. It is quite remarkable the power that Beyonce holds in the music business, as we’ll see in the list gathered. They most certainly don’t call her Queen Bey for nothing.
Here are a number of celebs who have either disappeared from the music industry and/or have committed career suicide by dissing Beyonce. Ones that were at the top of their game who suddenly lost it all when nasty comments against the Houston-born artist had the whole world boycott them. It will certainly make people think twice when they have something to say about the ‘Drunk in Love’ songstress.

10. Amerie

LOS ANGELES - NOV 9: Amerie Rogers arrives at the "Skyline" Wor

Amerie was on everybody’s lips with her 2005 hit ‘1 Thing,’ gaining her instant recognition worldwide thanks to the great deal of chart success through this one particular song. But things turned sour when Amerie began accusing other artists of stealing her style and her unique sound — particularly Beyonce. After hearing Bey’s ‘Green Light’ and how the chorus sounds quite identical to ‘1 Thing,’ Amerie went on to record a mixtape in which her intro sparked quite the controversy with its intentional shade at Mrs. Carter. The intro track, titled ‘Because I Love It,’ hears Amerie acknowledge how artists have grown to adapt to her style and tried to make it their own. She ends the verse, singing: “But you can’t buy my sound, can’t take my flow, can’t bag my swag. Nooo-ooo-ooo,” referring to the way she says ‘No-oo-oo’ in ‘1 Thing.’ Amerie’s approach seemed rather harsh, hence why the Bey-Hive weren’t having any of it. Petitions to boycott Amerie’s forthcoming music at the time had been made, and thousands of people had signed up. In the long run, it seems those petitions were effective after all, as Amerie hasn’t been commercially heard of since — wait for it — 2007!

9. Khia

Khia had quite a successful run in the music industry with hits like ‘My Neck, My Back’ and her featured duet with Janet Jackson on their track, ‘So Excited.’ But things turned left for the Atlanta-born artist when she threw shade at Beyonce in 2010, calling the 34-year-old an unoriginal artist who not only steals from other artists, but also can’t write her own music. In a series of Tweets, Khia didn’t hold back, claiming that Beyonce stole the name ‘Bey-Hive’ from Lil Kim’s fans, who are also known as ‘Beehive’. The only significant difference here would be the spelling. Khia engaged in several arguments with Beyonce’s fans, before concluding her point of view with ridiculous claims saying that Bey doesn’t care about the Bey-Hive. 37-year-old Khia felt the heat from her controversial Tweets against Beyonce because when the rapper went on to release her album ‘MotorMouf aka Khia Shamone’ in 2012, it failed to crack the Billboard Hot 200. On top of this, none of the 12 singles released from the record entered the Billboard Hot 100. Ouch!

8. SZA

Singer/songwriter, SZA, quickly became one of the artists to watch out for in 2014, but her comments made against Beyonce may have ruined her chances of becoming a musical phenomena. After having worked with Bey and Nicki Minaj on their song ‘Feeling Myself,’ old Tweets that date back to 2011 saw SZA make some rude comments towards Queen B. One of the Tweets on her official Twitter account went on to say that Beyonce was turning more and more into a ‘white’ woman. But that was not all. The 24-year-old also took a dig at Minaj, stating that Iggy Azalea’s talent may end up being a problem for Nicki who could possibly be overshadowed by the Australian rapper. While it was heavily rumoured that SZA had been in talks to pen a few songs for Beyonce’s next studio album, plans were supposedly scrapped following the uncalled for remarks. No doubt that she’ll struggle in the music industry if she’s already on Bey’s bad side.

7. Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas

Remember TLC’s Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas? She, herself, suffered the backlash from Beyonce’s Bey-Hive after having told fans she was sick and tired of seeing the words “Queen B” and “Bey” on her Twitter timeline. But her wording was taking out of context because what the former singer was trying to say was that fans should address artists by their real names. Beyonce’s fans took even more offense to Rozonda’s comments, spamming her social media timeline with death threats and comments saying that Chilli was ‘jealous’ she hadn’t been successful since TLC disbanded in 2002. After Chilli’s brief moment back in the limelight, she disappeared again only to make an announcement earlier this year, confirming she and band member Tionne Watkins were recording one last TLC album for the fans. The catch — fans had to raise $150,000 to fund their studio sessions. Oh dear.

6. Joseline Hernandez

Love & Hip Hop star Joseline Hernandez embarrassed herself when she went on to call Beyonce a h** that needed to make room for the up-and-coming artist. Several video clips of Joseline in the recording studio heard the reality star throw some pretty heavy insults at Bey. The fact that a TV star has the nerve to downplay the success of someone like Beyonce is already bad enough, but then to dig deeper by discrediting her is rather shocking. After the outburst, the Bey-Hive began digging up information on Joseline, such as her countless arrests, her life as a teen stripper, abortions, affairs with other men, and her drug addictions. The info became relevant to Love & Hip Hop producers who were alarmed by Joseline’s odd behavior on the program during season 3, when Hernandez punched a cast-mate in the face and bit off the flesh off a security guard. Former plans that saw Joseline land her own reality show on VH1 have since been canceled, while the 28-year-old is also believed to have taken a pay cut from the program, and is currently held up in a lawsuit for her infamous reunion brawl that left cast members battered and bruised.

5. Ciara

Ciara had her goodies on lock back in 2004, but the same can’t be said of her career after a brief feud with Beyonce, which sent her music sales plummeting. Having been compared to Beyonce ever since she first stepped on the scene, CiCi seemed to have gotten carried away when asked what she made of the fact that her music videos are very similar to those from Beyonce. Ciara responded saying she finds the comparison ‘petty,’ going on to reveal how fashion that she made iconic had been worn by Beyonce afterward, yet she never made a fuss about it. “I did my first video with my metal outfit. I was inspired by Thierry Mugler. Now, from my understanding, Beyonce is using Thierry Mugler for her tour. It just is what it is. It’s very petty to me,” Ci told Honey magazine in 2009. Six years have past and it seems Ciara never managed to get back on her feet following her diss towards Bey. 2009 saw the release of the singer’s third album Fantasy Ride, and its sales were so low, KFC began giving out the record for free with every meal bought. A year later saw Ciara attempt to win back her fans with Basic Instinct, but still no luck. The album was a commercial flop which Ci went on to blame the record label for. Ciara’s latest self-titled album, released in 2013, opened with first-week sales of 60,000 copies, which is considerably less than her sophomore record The Evolution, which opened with sales of 338,000.

4. Karrueche Tran

Chris Brown’s on-again, off-again girlfriend Karrueche Tran, caused controversy when she made hideous remarks against Beyonce’s daughter, Blue Ivy. Last year, the socialite was called in by producers of BET’s 106 and Park to co-host the music countdown show for an entire week and engage in discussions with fans. When it came down to recapping Beyonce’s performance at the 2014 Video Music Awards, which saw little Blue Ivy watch front row, Karrueche had stated that the youngster’s hair needed to have been combed by her parents. Within minutes after the live taping aired on television, fans took to social media, slamming Tran for her comments against an innocent child. The remark was so controversial that BET execs decided to place the entire show on hiatus until they figured out how they would move forward from the scandal. 106 returned after a week, only to then find out months later that the network’s execs felt the show needed to be axed. As for Karrueche — she hasn’t landed herself a TV hosting gig since then.

3. Keyshia Cole

Keyshia Cole’s career went to the ‘Point of No Return’ following the shade she threw towards Destiny’s Child when they graced the stage at the 2013 Super Bowl. During Beyonce’s halftime show in New Orleans, the songstress invited her DC musical pals on-stage for a one-off medley performance. But certain people were less than impressed with the outcome of the show; Keyshia Cole, in particular. The 33-year-old was very vocal on how she felt about Beyonce’s halftime performance, joking that her band members couldn’t keep up with the routine, and therefore discredited the show as a whole. “I think I was frightened to blink for a sec. Then Michelle sung and woke my ass up from my daze! She always f-cking the groove up,” she Tweeted. Following the backlash that Cole received from her not-so-nice comments, the ‘I Should Have Cheated’ singer further added that Beyonce is “whack and always will be.” Since then, Keyshia Cole’s career has most certainly taken its toll. Her latest album Point of No Return, went on to sell a measly 45,000 copies in its first-week. And if that wasn’t enough, Cole went on to confirm that she was no longer signed to Interscope — the label she had first signed to back in 2005 — over “creative differences”. Keyshia is now an independent artist.

2. Ashanti

shutterstock_166153352
There was a time when whatever song Ashanti put her vocals on, it would turn into a platinum-selling hit record. These days, her songs are lucky to be certified copper, and it’s supposedly all Beyonce’s fault. Back in 2003 when Beyonce released her debut album Crazy in Love, the media put no rest to comparing the former Destiny’s Child lead singer to Murda Inc’s first lady. It wasn’t long before the two looked at each other as fierce competition on the charts, vowing that both were better than one another. It was long rumored that Ashanti had urged rappers not to work with Beyonce after the singer had shown an interest in working with the likes of Ja Rule, who Ashanti was very close to. Stopping Beyonce from working with Ja Rule may have worked, but as Ashanti continued putting out new albums over the course of years, each and every one sold less and less. By 2006, Ashanti was no longer seen as a rival to Beyonce who was outselling the ‘Rock Wit U’ singer by more than 250,000 copies with every new record.

1. Keri Hilson

shutterstock_100449487
After the success of her wildly popular 2009 hit ‘Turnin’ Me On’, Keri Hilson penned a remixed version in which she outrageously blasted Beyonce for being a mediocre artist. In the song, Hilson took unexpected shots at Bey, stating that the 34-year-old’s biggest tracks were penned by Keri, before adding that “Yonce needed to sit down as her career was beginning to fade”. The irony kicked in when Keri would go on to release her second album, No Boys Allowed the following year, debuting at number 11 on the charts, and failing to reach Interscope Records’ expectations. In 2014, it was rumored that Keri had officially been dropped from her label, months before she was spotted performing at an empty stadium to a crowd the size of a dinner hall.
