Richest man in Babylon
# The Man Who Desired Gold
1) The cure to a lean purse. The cure to no money.
Bansir says to Kobbi:
" Thou makest me to realize the reason why we have never found any measure of welath. We never sought it.
The cure to "no money" is the shear willpower to get after it, consistently - patiently.
We only succeed in the things we put most of our effort at.
2) Proper preparation. Dreams, goals & plans.
Bansir says to Kobbi:
"I am willing to work for these things with all the strength in my back, with all the skills in my hands, with all the cunning in my mind ... Why cannot we have our just share of the good things so plentiful ...?
Hard work beats talent. But, working hard is not enough.
Bansir says to Kobbi:
"... to know the joys that come from the wealth, we must dream about them."
Dream(s) - and your goals, if not scary are not big enough.
(I have personally challenged myself to achieve certain sum of net-worth every year. A powerful tool and fuel to drive me towards the cure of a lean purse-- as I have come to find out).
Plan and scheme - ask yourself the hard questions. Discover your needs. Discover your wants. Streamline your budget to the last dollar. Know your expenses like you know the back of your hand.
3) Golden stream - to refill your purse.
"A fat purse quickly empties if there be no more golden stream to refill it.
No matter how liberal your spending is-- we need an income stream. Don't sweat it, it doesn't have to be a 9 to 5.
4) Brace yourself, your journey will be filled with discouragement.
"Bansir, the chariot builder of Babylon, was thoroughly discouraged.
His wife frequently appeared at the open door. Her furtive glances in his direction reminded him that the meal bag was almost empty
Surround yourself with the right people. People who will support you, people who subscribe to your cause. Ignore everyone else.
You become who you spend most of your time with.
